Aberdeen's port is one of the busiest ports in the United Kingdom and is the principal commercial harbour for the northeast of Scotland. The port welcomes more than 9,000 visiting ships and receives about four million tonnes of cargo per year. Additionally, it is also the main east coast ferry port and port-of-call for cruise ships.

Northlink Ferries provide five weekly sailings to Lerwick, on the Shetland Islands; the duration of the voyage is 1 hour, 30 minutes.
